Welcome to the first edition of GBN Spotlight.

All Games Considered is one of the Great Grandfathers of all gaming podcasts. Not the oldest (I think Yog Radio probably has that title), but definitely One of the Oldest.

Over the years they have been fairly frequent in their posting and they maintain an objective overall view of games and gaming. They really do span quite a large swath of what you might consider gaming topics, talking about wargames, board games, and roleplaying games. Their reviews of games are notoriously thorough, and their reviews of genres of games are equally so.

For a good overview of general gaming topics, they can’t be beat. The co-hosts’ chemistry works well, even if there is a noted amount of tension between and among them from time to time. Mark Kinney, the guy with the NPR-quality voice, provides a stable foil to his co-hosts Chris Heim (who could possibly be the John Dvorak of Gaming Podcasts) and thoughtful, thorough, and cheerful Carol Hardy.

Always willing to experiment, AGC has added segments from contributors from time to time: the most famous of these are “Games You May Never Have Heard Of” by Ben Balestra, and the RPG Buffet series by a number of different contributors, especially someone named Mags. “Games You May Never” is pretty obvious a nostalgia piece about obscure games or out-of-print games, and RPG Buffet is perhaps one of the only game-related segments that also includes catering recipes for gamers.

Although many of the Gaming Podcasts have news segments, AGC does a lot to try and cover gaming news specifically and will frequently have special segments about topics in the news.

AGC is a great RPG podcast staple, something that should be added to your regular podcast listening rotation no matter what your other gaming interests.
